The release of the new edition of Highway Holocaust, the first book in Joe Dever’s Freeway Warrior series from Swedish publisher Åskfågeln, is now imminent, with the book being printed and prepared for delivery. Pre-orders are currently open at Åskfågeln’s webstore, so those who missed the Kickstarter campaign last year can now order a copy of this updated and enhanced version. The hardback edition will notably come with an additional wrap-around dust jacket, featuring a fantastic full-colour location map from Francesco Mattioli on the inside, as seen below.
Originally released in the late eighties, Joe Dever has updated the timeline and changed Cal Phoenix’s story to better fit today’s society, with the adventure now taking place in the year 2033 (rather than 2020). Joe Dever’s Freeway Warrior will also feature adjustments to the game mechanics (an increase of Skill Points when creating your character), new interior illustrations by Ryan Lovelock (illustrator for the new Italian Edition) and page vignettes by cover artist Lukas Thelin.
You are Cal Phoenix, the Freeway Warrior, champion and protector of Dallas Colony One. A murderous gang of HAVOC clansmen, led by the psychotic Mad Dog Michigan, are bent on destroying your fragile colony as it crosses the wastelands of Texas on the first stage of a life-or-death exodus to the California coast. These bike-riding clansmen are a formidable enemy: armed, cunning, and extremely dangerous, capable of launching a lightning raid at any time, day or night. You will need all your wits about you if you are to defend your people and reach your destination intact!
Book 2, Slaughter Mountain Run, is scheduled for release later this year, with book 3, The Omega Zone, available for Easter 2018, followed by book 4, California Countdown, in late 2018.
Visit Åskfågeln’s webstore now to secure your copy of this impressive new edition of Highway Holocaust, or purchase all four books in the series for immediate delivery upon their individual release.
