The third and concluding gamebook in the Midnight Legion sci-fi adventure series, Portal of Life is now seeking funding via Kickstarter. The Midnight Legion gamebooks form a highly advanced, strategic, colour illustrated trilogy set in a distant post-apocalyptic future, where you collect information, knowledge and goods from the world around you to advance your character.
The series is playable as either a solo or 2-player cooperative experience, and Portal of Life can be read as either an exciting standalone adventure or as a continuation of the broader story as told in the first and second books. Solve puzzles, recover lost memories, and utilize combat, stealth, or sixth sense and diplomacy – you are an elite, android agent with an urgent mission: every important choice you make will lead to different options.
Your world is gone. The world that has replaced it is alien and savage, but filled with wondrous new life. In the last remaining Midnight Legion base a computer controls technology that can destroy it or help it to thrive. If you’re strong enough you can defeat the agent who betrayed your mission. If you’re clever and skilled enough you can solve the base’s puzzles and outwit its traps. But even then you will still need to confront the sentient, possibly deranged computer itself. What it can tell you depends on how much you are willing to sacrifice to regain the memories you have lost.
This Kickstarter campaign for Portal of Life will allow anyone new to the series to purchase all three books in print or pdf. The prequel mini-booklet Last Recruit (Book 0) is also available in a limited quantity as part of the campaign, featuring a character-creation storyline created for the 2018 Free RPG Day. You can develop your character for the Midnight Legion series through the narrative, including some minor alterations that can only be accessed by playing Last Recruit. Completing the story will then unlock an otherwise hidden scene in Portal of Life.
The Portal of Life Kickstarter campaign ends on September 19th. You can find out more information about this unique interactive series at the Midnight Legion website.
