J. Pingo Lindstrom created GamebookNews.com back in 2016 as a way to bring the small, but powerful, gamebook community and their publishers, together. The Warlock of Firetop Mountain was Pingo’s first gamebook – a Christmas gift back in 1984, which made him realise that art is not always what it is conceived to be. With the dawn of digital publishing, he could now create his own gamebooks, starting with the three books of the Random Solo Adventure series. Pingo has also produced movies, music, games and tons of written material. Check out PenguinComics.com for some of his works.

Phoebe joined GBN in 2020 as a Features Editor after contributing her Gamebook Development series. Phoebe is a degree-qualified freelance writer with over a thousand articles to her name. After rediscovering her vintage Fighting Fantasy books in 2019, she turned her attention to writing her debut gamebook which she hopes to get traditionally published in the near future. She’s currently working on her debut YA fantasy novel.

KJ joined GBN in 2019 having been revived and inspired after attending Fighting Fantasy Fest 3 in Ealing, London. A medieval history graduate and law post-graduate with over fifteen years teaching experience in various university circuits, KJ is a keen dungeon-master, role-player, and science fiction & fantasy enthusiast. KJ’s ambition to write a fantasy novel was recently realised in his debut Amazon publication Children of Anshar.
What do we track, and why?
You may have already noticed that we do track some data on GBN. The only tracking-code that we implement is from Google Analytics, and this is so we can analyse which articles are most read (and liked), understand demographics in regard to country of origin and language, and record the number of visitors during specific time periods.
We use this data to improve the website. For instance, with the aid of this tracking, we could see that a significant number of people left the old Reviews page without clicking on a specific review. Additionally, we noticed that loading times were slow due to setup issues and image sizing. Hence, we used this collected data to reorganise the site’s overall structure, subsequently decreasing load times and improving user navigation.
We are constantly using Google Analytics to provide a better experience, and are not using any other data tracking or cookies.
Our website servers currently display all ads, and we do not use an external ad-server or ad-service. Therefore, we do not use Google ads or any other similar system.
We use Let’s Encrypt for the SSL-connection. You can read more about Let’s Encrypt here.
We will never use collected data for any purpose other than improving GBN, and the information gained will never be seen or re-sold to any third party. We simply strive to make your experience at Gamebook News speedy, safe and secure.
If you want to help GBN to meet its operating costs, please support us by letting us track your visit via Google Analytics, and by turning off any ad-blocker.
Thank you!
