Created by game designer Oliver McNeil, The StoryMaster’s Tales “Weirding Woods” is a fantasy storytelling game like no other – a unique hybrid of role-playing, board game, card game and adventure gamebook. Quick to learn, portable and most importantly really fun, Weirding Woods can be played solo or with a group of family or friends, playing co-operatively or against each other.
Enter a world of folklore fantasy, epic storytelling and mighty magic! Set in the Grimm world of 18th Century dark fairy tales, you will make your own treacherous pathway through the wild woodlands, encounter strange mystical creatures and find lost arcane artefacts.
Alone or with friends you must choose a dangerous quest – but beware, only those with the skill, intelligence and bravery of a hero will survive.
Weirding Woods includes a softback A5 StoryBook, 50 StoryCards, 28 Reward Cards (of rare & arcane artefacts), a cloth carry bag, 4 pencils, two d4 dice, 20 adventure sheets and 4 glass tokens – all neatly housed in a gold foil embossed box. Atmospheric soundscapes are also available for purchase as a digital download, providing 25 minutes of music per StoryCard to accompany your game.
Playing Weirding Woods is straightforward. Create a character, choosing from the seven classes (Royal, Wizard, Witch, Soldier, Huntsman, Rogue or Red-cap – each with different skills and abilities), select a quest and then start revealing your unique map with every turn of a StoryCard.
As you make your adventure map, the StoryMaster will give you FOUR choices for every card; these all come from the StoryBook provided, and each one will have its own options and results. You must make moral decisions, take risks and use your wits and tactics to survive. Will you work together or race to find the champion of heroes?
Now seeking funding on Kickstarter, The StoryMaster’s Tales “Weirding Woods” box set will provide many hours of magic, monsters and mystery. The campaign concludes on July 1st.
