Tunnels & Trolls: Naked Doom

MetaArcade will create a digital remastering of Naked Doom, Ken St. Andre’s second solo adventure for the iconic tabletop role-playing game Deluxe Tunnels & Trolls. This will be the first project for their new MetaArcade Adventures Platform, which will enable users to play, create and self-publish adventure games featuring narrative-driven mechanics. Available later this year for iOS, Android, PC and Mac, the original Naked Doom, written in 1977, features one of the most challenging beginnings ever devised for a newly-created character in any RPG, and is known for its uncompromising difficulty.

MetaArcade notes that Naked Doom: ‘exemplifies the heights of the earliest fantasy RPG adventures, placing new characters in a mysterious, forbidding high fantasy environment where players are forced to think their way through to survive. As we set out on our partnership with the Fellowship of the Troll, it became clear to all of us that the best place to start our project would indeed be Naked Doom.

They caught you… and you’re in trouble now. The City of Khazan does not believe in coddling criminals, and now you must run the Royal Khazan Gauntlet of Criminal Retribution and Rehabilitation. You are taken into the catacombs, beneath the Khazan Courthouse, and stripped of all clothing, jewelry, weapons, amulets, and other devices. If you can make your way through the series of tunnels and caves that lie ahead, you will escape with your life – and if you’re lucky, treasure!

So, create your adventurer, arm yourself with sword and shield, wits and luck, or maybe a wizard’s staff, and set out into the lands of Trollworld. Survive long enough, and you too may find yourself having become truly a hero!

UPDATE – you can view an early prototype of MetaArcade‘s Naked Doom, as shown at the recent Gen Con 2016, on the MetaArcade blog.
